The Kansas City Current have qualified for the 2026 NWSL Playoffs, the club announced on Friday, October 23. Other results around the league secured the berth that night. It is the club's third consecutive postseason appearance and its fourth in the franchise's six seasons.

Qualification settles one question and leaves another open. According to the club, Kansas City had 47 points and sat fourth in the table with two regular season matches remaining. The top four teams on the final table each host a quarterfinal, so the Current held a hosting place at the time of the announcement but had not secured it. The club says its quarterfinal opponent will be finalized after Decision Day on November 1, and the round is scheduled for November 6 to 8.

The home record explains why that last step matters to Kansas City. The club reports a 2026 home record of 10 wins and four draws, extending its unbeaten home run to 31 consecutive matches, which it describes as an NWSL record. Of the 50 goals the Current had scored this season by October 23, 37 came at CPKC Stadium, matching the 2024 team for the most home goals in a season in club history. Those figures show where this team has done most of its damage. They describe the regular season and do not settle how a home playoff match would go.

The next chance to strengthen that position comes on Sunday, October 25, when Kansas City host the Washington Spirit at 4 p.m. CT in their final home match of the regular season. The Current arrive after three straight wins. The latest, at Utah last Saturday, brought their season total to 50 goals, a number the club has reached only once before, with the 2024 team.

The run of appearances has produced different endings. Kansas City reached the championship match as the fifth seed in 2022, the semifinals as the fourth seed in 2024 and the quarterfinals in 2025. This year's final is set for Saturday, November 21, at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Before then, Kansas City have two regular season matches left to try to make sure their own quarterfinal is played at CPKC Stadium, and the Washington match is the only one of them at home.
